When Was the Last Time?
When was the last time you stopped and took a breath?
“Hectic lifestyles, meetings, appointments, due dates, and deadlines…most days I forget to complete the small tasks because of my addiction to “more”. My schedule tends to consume me. Most of my friends don’t reach out anymore because they already know my response.”
When was the last time you reached out to an old friend to say hello?
“I had a good friend growing up. Come high school we drifted apart. I always had meant to call or text him, but it never happened. The end of high school came and as quickly as we drifted apart, his days came to an end and passed away. I never got to say goodbye, let alone catch up.”
When was the last time you could have intervened to prevent a lasting impact on someone’s life?
“My friend sought out the relations of my other friend’s ex girlfriend in a time when she was vulnerable. The two ended up getting back together. The event was made known to all involved and has since created a toxic environment in which no one trusts each other…including me who stood by and watched the entire predicament unfold.”
When was the last time you checked your ego?
“I joined an organization to which everyone shared upstanding and professional accomplishments. The way everyone associated resembled that of a boasting-type atmosphere. I reciprocated. My tone and topics of discussion soon reflected an ego-centered ass. My attitude caused people to not talk to me. I was classified as someone I knew deep down I was not. I wanted to keep up with the picture perfect image, but shot myself in the foot.”
When was the last time you confessed your internal struggles let someone in?
“I called my mother last week. I told her my problems. I told her how everything seemed to be crashing down on me. My life has become an abstract jungle, to which seems to have an endless amount of anxiety. I went on and on. And at the end of our conversation…she reminded me that I am loved. She told me if anything else, she cared and there are people who love me no matter what.”
Real situations and real people. When was the last time you reflected on the small things in life? When was the last time you confided in someone? Do not hold it in. There are those who listen. And those who do, will be there for you One Day at a Time.
