Fake It Until You BECOME It

“If somebody offers you an amazing opportunity, but you are not sure you can do it, say yes – then learn how to do it later” –Richard Branson

I’ve recognized a trend recently. The trend is an increased frequency in the number of “early defeats or failures given new opportunities.” In real person terms, I have started to notice people give in before a fight has even begun. The biggest source of failure, is purely and solely dependent on your first response.

In my personal life, I have often fail to begin by failure to efficiently and positively execute a first response that sets me up for success. I tell myself I can’t before I try. Most entrepreneurs and big names started by “shooting their shot.” Jeff Bezos (Amazon), Steve Jobs (Apple), Randall Pich (Live Fit), and other successful stories started with only a couple of ideas jotted down on paper. They never had an entire business plan modeled end to end that omitted flaw. Success is a journey, not a one stop obstacle.

Today I tell you, the number one source of failure is failure to recognize that you can. Today, I can’t do a pullup. Tomorrow, I’ll give you ten muscle-ups. Today, I do not know how to value a product of a business. Tomorrow, I’ll give you a valuation of the company. Today, I don’t have a dollar to my name. Tomorrow, I’ll help you pay off your student loans.

The hardest part of starting your journey to success, is starting. So today, you can and you will. Accept the opportunity and learn to do it, One Day at a Time
